It's back-to-school time, everyone can feel it. We're all stocking up on supplies, working on our figures, revamping our wardrobes and getting ready to learn new things.
Except, oh wait!, I graduated this year. Like an idiot.
The smell of freshly sharpened pencils is getting me nostalgic (not that I've used pencils in class since about 2003) and I have this crazy desire to buy a backpack with dinosaurs on it (which I never wanted as a child). Back to school is just about the coolest most exciting part of September, and I hate to think of myself as not being a part of it.
Perhaps, then, it's not a coincidence that I'm starting my new job this week, and just *had* to get new work shoes for the occasion. For the record, those of you in the service industry, get Dansko professional clogs...
...because, as my mother told me when I got my first restaurant job, "Your feet are what you depend on to make your money. Spend at least $80 on your shoes." And with that, she transferred me one hundred dollars, and I got my first "workshoes" that didn't come from payless or target. Merrell Encore Moc Pros, in black leather. They have been through so much that, you guessed it, they finally broke down.
So I got to get my shiny new Dansko Professional Tooled Leather Clogs (and tomorrow I get to exchange them for the right size). And I got to get new black pants and a new uniform, and, to make me feel especially better, I got to buy a nice big pack of Write Bros. black ballpoint pens, to keep in my new server apron. And the biggest new thing of all? A new address.
As of September 1st, I am going to be an official legal resident of Massachusetts. I will have my own room, and will be living a mere two blocks away from Boyfriend, a two minute walk from RachMcG (woo neighbor!) and a five minute walk from the Penguin and the Pig! And, duh, my new roomies are amazing. My life, it seems, is awesome.
And I get all of these new things with no homework to speak of and no grades to worry about.
Speaking of freedom from homework. Anyone need a GRE study budy?
